Wood was authorized to mint 360 tons of half pence and farthings over a period of fourteen years. This type a coin is prized among collectors of American colonial coinage, though according to Mossman (p.134): 'There is no evidence of any substantial colonial circulation for these coppers . . . although it can be reasonably concluded that any current European coins could have ended up in North America, either brought over by the steady stream of immigrants or in the merchant trade.'

1787 Mass Half Cent PCGS 45 BN Designed by Joseph Callender, Massachusetts copper cents and half cents in 1787 and 1788 were minted under the direction of Joshua Witherle. These coins were the first to exhibit the denomination Cent as directed by Congress. The mint was abandoned early in 1789 in compliance with the ratifying of the constitution which forbade all but official copper.

1795 Wash 1/2P Grate Lg But Reed Edge PCGS 63 Choice. Brown. Well struck. Pleasing surfaces. Well struck with some weakness on the word LONDON at the reverse. This 1795 British copper halfpenny token was designed by Thomas Wyon of the Peter Kempson and Sons mint in Birmingham, England, for the London firm of Clark and Harris, dealers in stoves and fireplace grates. The obverse displays a bust of Washington facing right. The reverse displays a large grate (a screen put in front of a fireplace).The Grate token was made for and used in England but has been collected as part of the American Colonial series because of the Washington bust and because of its relationship to the Liberty and Security series. PCGS has certified 45 coins at this level with 23 finer.
1857 FE FS-004 FND-001 S-7 ANACS 6 This coin is famed as the obverse displays a clashed die. The Flying Eagle Cent die was clashed with an obverse die of a Liberty Head double eagle. This one of the three known multi-denominational clashed die varieties for this date and is highly sought by experienced collectors.
